Cinematographer and Cinematography Also there to document the day, but from an artistic and cinematic perspective. Storyline and capturing things as they are is huge so that everything flows naturally. They will typically not interview anyone or stage any shots (meaning tell you to “go here and do this). Tends to use DSLR cameras and multiple lenses. The ability to change lenses allows them to focus on one element while throwing the background out of focus (meaning they can focus on a glass 2 feet away and blur out everything behind it to draw your eye to the glass). Finished video will be edited in a cinematic way, to feel like a movie and reflect that kind of quality. Tend to use the term “film” vs. “video” to describe their finished product. The short version of the film (the 3-5 minute highlight) is their main product and will use audio from all parts of the day to drive the story. Their long version of the wedding film will either be edited in a cinematic way as well (meaning cut down to 20-30ish minutes and fitted together to flow) or will be kept longer as a “documentary style edit” to include as much as possible while still being watchable. Typically shoot using 24 frames a second to give their work more of that cinematic feel. These are in no way the only differences between the two types of shooting styles, but some of the most significant. Again, these terms may be used interchangeably and just because they fit into one or two parts of the above category doesn’t mean they’re style isn’t “true to the term,” that’s just their style.
